First Drafts…Ugh!

Write-Drunk-Edit-Sober-Ernest-HemingwayWith furious keystrokes, an overload of coffee, and a bit of determination I FINISHED my April/July NaNo novel yesterday. However, the next emotion that wafted over me wasn’t elation or relief.

I didn’t get that feeling you get after running a marathon or winning a hot dog eating contest.

I actually felt like this was just the beginning.

…And it is.

First drafts are just warm up stretches for the real run. Or, as Chuck Wendig calls them, “creative vomit.”

Still, I’m happy I got through the slush pile!

Now it’s all a matter of letting the manuscript rest—and then editing it. Should be fun.

Hope you all did good on your NaNo writing this month!

NaNo Over a Stein, Week Three

Ack! We’re at the NaNo midpoint already?!

Well, I was going strong this week. Was!

Then life blinded sided me! I had to deal with college preparations, Internet loss, burnout and est. Not fun.

Which is also the reason I was MIA this week!

I didn’t fall too far behind—thank god—but I do wish I would’ve preformed better.

On a more sunnier side, I’m challenging myself with a short story. This would be my first try at writing a short story so I’m a bit excited about it.

Have you written a short story before? Give me some pointers!

NaNo Over a Stein, Week Two

The first week of Camp NaNo is usually the week where I tear my hair out.

Let me restate that: I would have torn my hair out if my stomach flu didn’t sap all the energy out of me.

While we’re on the subject, let me just say that my 4th of July sucked. Why? Because I didn’t have an appetite for ANYTHING…not even buttery dinner rolls! I never would’ve imagined the day I’d turn down a calorie filled dinner roll…

But that’s life for you.

I WAS behind on my NaNo novel.

But after downing two glasses of coffee I sorta went postal on the keyboard…

I was typing so fast that my courser started to lag…

Today I feel like this:

Work imagination! Work!!!!!

Guess I need more coffee?

So yeah that was my week.

Hands you a stein.

Relax, it’s safe.

More or less

I’m an Inspiring Blogger…Really? Sweet!

So I woke up this morning, like most people do in the morning, and stalked into the kitchen. Snatched a mug off the shelf, filled it to the brim with sugar and drizzled coffee on top. I knew that I needed to work on my Camp NaNo project but I thought:

Meh. Going on wordpress and deliberately procrastinating sounds so much better.

So I did and then–

KACHOW!!!

Taylor Grace nominated me for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award!

It took me a moment to come to grips with this. Partly because my potent pancake syrup (aka coffee) was causing my brain to move faster than a herd of horses, cheetahs, leopards, and [insert fast animal] put together!

But once I eventually came to the realization that I’d been complemented…

“Honest, gutsy writer who tells it like it is and has a fantastic sense of humor.”

– Taylor Grace

I felt…well complemented!

I mean Inspiring Blogger? Holy crap!

So the rules are:

  1. The nominee shall display the Very Inspiring Blogger Award logo on her/his blog, and link to the blog they got nominated from.
  2. The nominee shall nominate fifteen (15) bloggers she/he admires, by linking to their blogs and informing them about it.

I love simple instructions…I really do. Well here are fifteen bloggers that have inspired me in someway (this was very hard to narrow down btw).

They are:

  1. Books and Bark
  2. Carol J Forrester
  3. Wordy and Nerdy
  4. Tyro Charm
  5. Rachael Carrera
  6. Lynette Noni
  7. Vik Tory Arch
  8. A Writer’s Life For Me
  9. Caffe Maggieato
  10. Damyanti
  11. Raevenly Writes
  12. Leonie Rogers
  13. Victoria Grefer
  14. Ripples of Truth
  15. Lady of the Pen

NaNo Over a Stein, Week One

Flings you a stein of green goo.

If I could rate this week I would give it a solid 3 out 5.

Why? Because I have a stomach flu. 🙁 Not fun.

I managed to get 1k down for my April Camp NaNo novel. My monthly goal was 50,000 but I lowered it to 25,000 simply because I feel like pacing myself.

On a brighter note, I saw Transformers on Wednesday (and didn’t write anything) with my brothers.

I think we all had the same reaction:

Young Brother: “It was a movie of epic proportions!”

Younger Brother: “It was AWESOME!!!”

Me: “It was great.”

A movie worth seeing in my opinion.

As for today…I hope I can write something…

Looks at your untouched glass of goop.

You gonna drink that?

How was your first NaNo week?

Monthly Wrap Up: Bye Bye June-bug

Today is, sadly, the last day of June. I must say, that I’ve been pretty busy–and by busy I mean doing the things that I love to do. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to kick back and just cruise.

But all things must come to an eventual end, I suppose. I’m just hoping that July will go as smooth for me as June has.

Looking back, this is what happened at the Tavern:

Well that was a lot! Lets get July and Camp NaNoWriMo started already! Are you ready? Give me your mean face!

*Last Month

Goals for July

Guess what? Today is the end of the last full week of June. Which sucks because that also means there’s only one more month before I have to put my nose back to the grind.

Ugh…I guess you can’t get too comfortable, right?

But anyway, here’s what I accomplished in June:

  • I started posting 3 times a week again
  • I believe I’ve given the Tavern the special love and care it deserves
  • I did one book review. I planned to write two but I’m glad I did something.
  • I got back into writing my WIP again thanks to a Tuesday writing sprint on twitter

Here’s what I plan to do in July:

  • Participate in Camp NaNoWriMo
  • Finish my WIP during Camp NaNo
  • edit scifi WIP
  • Read Two books and write reviews on them
  • Register for classes

I’ve got a busy month ahead of me!

This Week’s and June’s Goals

Ugh, the end of the month is approaching faster than a steam engine. It’s like it snuck up behind me like a ninja! Can you believe that?

There hasn’t been much going on in the Tavern this month (at least to me) but I’m planning on picking things up. Which brings me to my goals for the week and for the month of June.

For the week, I plan to…

  1. Get back to posting three times a week
  2. PASS my finals *crosses fingers*

For June, I plan to…

  1. Read more
  2. Write two book reviews
  3. Begin outlining a manuscript for July Camp NaNo (Hmm…I wonder what I should write)
  4. Continue to read through Restitution
  5. Give the Tavern the attention it deserves 🙂
